Carbondale, Southern Illinois University-Hanger 9 – 350 odd miles away from Chicago, in a small bar called “Hanger 9”, Chicago Underground Hip Hop has taken over and Mecca has created a buzz. Maybe its in part due to Monday`s Open Mic Nights at Hanger where she use to kill (no pun intended). Songs, battles or freestyles the crowd was always in tune with her.
Sitting next to the loudest speaker in life at the end of the stage I watched her perform a song with another artist Beadz called “You Will Get Scraped”. The mood inside of Hanger was calm and cool but you knew once Mecca and Beadz got on stage that things were starting to get live. The crowd went from chilling to flat out Crunk!
It was real Hip Hop and despite an enduring semester we managed to fill a bar with majority Chicagoans and some people from STL just to show HIP HOP IS NOT DEAD!!!.
